Hornets face off in tough away matches

Cadott’s boys basketball program took on three tough teams in away games over the week, coming up with a close win over their final opponent.

Jan. 4 vs. Fall Creek conference (L 82-43)

Starting off the week, Cadott headed the short distance to Fall Creek, taking on the Crickets in a conference match-up. The Hornets’ scoring wasn’t there and Cadott went into halftime, down by 16 points.

Fall Creek continued to rack up points in the second half and Cadott couldn’t catch up. The game went to the Crickets, 82-43.

Leading for Cadott, was senior Ryan Sonnentag, who knocked down three shots from long range, ending with 12 points. Junior Tegan Ritter also hit a three, coming up with 9 points, while sophomore Brodee Burish sank a threepointer, finishing with 7 points.

Freshman Braden Schneider also had 7 points and a shot from beyond the arc, and sophomore Nolan Blum added 4 points. Rounding out the scoring, senior Cameron Messenger recorded 2 points.

Jan. 7 vs. Bloomer conference (L 73-34)

A few days later, Cadott was off to Bloomer, where again, the Hornets struggled with scoring. Cadott was limited to just 34 points, while Bloomer scored more than double that amount.

The conference game went the way of Bloomer, 73-34.

Schneider led the charge for the Hornets, with 18 points, 12 of those coming from three-point shots. Freshman Warren Bowe was also on point from long range, knocking down 3 of the shots for 9 points. Sonnentag followed that with 5 points and Ritter chipped in with 2.

Jan. 10 vs. Boyceville non-conference (W 62-59)

After a weekend to regroup, Cadott traveled to Boyceville, where the Hornets were again outscored in the first half. By halftime, the score stood 40-28, in favor of Boyceville, but Cadott refused to go down without a fight.

The Hornets came storming back to add 34 points to the scoreboard, while holding Boyceville to just 19. At the end of the night, Cadott walked away the victors, 62-59.

“Slow start, but, after halftime adjustments, we crawled back as a team and finished on a positive note,” said coach Dusty Burish.

Bowe was on target from the three-point line, knocking down three long-range shots, scoring 15 points on the night. Sonnentag also notched a three, finishing with 16 points, followed by Ritter, with 12. Schneider also claimed a threepointer and came away with 8 points.

Sophomore Jordan Peters had 7 points, while Messenger had 4.

The win brings the Hornets to a 4-7 record overall and 1-5 the West Cloverbelt Conference.
