The girls basketball program is on a tear, running over both the week’s opponents to improve their win record.

Jan. 4 vs. Gilmanton non-conference (W 69-19)

First up, was Gilmanton, who came to call for the nonconference match. The Hornets jumped out at the beginning of the game and never let up, taking a dominating 34-8 lead into halftime.

Gilmanton only scored 11 points in the second half, conceding the 69-19 win to Cadott on their home court.

“The last couple games have given us a chance to work to be consistent on offense and defense,” said coach Dave Hazuga. “Tonight, we were able to go deeper in the rotation and that experience will help the players.”

Junior Laken Ryan was again on target from long range, dishing up four shots from three-point land, ending with 14 points, while junior Lauryn Goettl shot for 24 points. Freshman Kasey Moldren followed that with 6 points, while junior Eva Enestvedt and sophomore Emma Kowalczyk each added 4 points.

Senior Olivia Goodman, junior Elly Eiler and sophomore Bradee Burish each notched a three-pointer, and freshman Mozelle Walthers shot 2 free throws. Freshman McKenna Steinke chipped in with 2 points.

“We have been playing good, we’re on a nice stretch here,” said Hazuga.

Jan. 6 vs. Bloomer conference (W 68-47)

Two days later, the Hornets headed to Bloomer for the conference game, where again, Cadott was quick to get ahead on the scoreboard. The Hornets took a 45-17 lead into halftime.

“The girls started strong tonight, we had a big run early and were able to keep it going,” said Hazgua. “Bloomer is a good team. We worked hard on the defensive end and it paid off.”

Despite Bloomer coming back in the second half, Cadott held on to win, 68-47.

Ryan again connected from long range, knocking down five, three-pointers, coming away with 17 points. Goettl had 22 points on the night, followed by Kowalczyk, with 12 and Eller, with 11. Burish, Enestvedt and junior Morgan Moldrem each ended with 2 points.

The week’s win brings Cadott’s overall record to 10-1 and 4-1 in West Cloverbelt Conference play.

“Everyone gets in on the scoring, we share the ball well,” said Hazuga.
