Lake Holcombe’s girls basketball program is improving each game, as one of their senior players reached 1,000 points in her career over the week.
Dec. 14 vs. Winter conference (W 61-33)
First up on the week’s schedule, was Winter in an away match-up, with Lake Holcombe dominating the scoreboard. The Chieftains took a 29-18 lead into halftime, with the second half much the same, for a 61-33 win.
“Lake Holcombe’s freshmen (Chloe Lee, Abby Jones and Emily Kirkman) got quite a few minutes, which is great building our program and giving them confidence on the floor,” said coach Jennifer Lechleitner.
Lechleitner says seniors Brooke Lechleitner and Carly Vavra did a nice job leading the floor, while junior Karly Kirkman found herself in a bit of foul trouble. Junior Belle Jones’ defense was “out of this world,” and sophomore Emma Lechleitner’s length aided in many rebounds and fast-break options down the court.
Brooke Lechleitner recorded 19 points, while E. Lechleitner finished the night with 13 points. Vavra, Kirkman and junior Justine Kane each notched a three-point shot, ending with 7 points.
Lee came away with 6 points and A. Jones chipped in with 2 points.
Dec. 17 vs. New Auburn conference (W 49-27)
The Friday night match with New Auburn, also went the way of the Chiefs, as the girls struck out right off the bat in a scoring barrage. With a nice cushioned lead, Lake Holcombe was able to work their positions for the best shot, coming up with a 49-27 win.
“Highlight of the night was how the team supported senior Brooke Lechleitner to reach her 1,000 points,” said J. Lechleitner.
Lechleitner reached the milestone in front of her home support, which made the moment all the sweeter, scoring 29 points on the night, with a shot from long range.
“What an accomplishment for our team and Brooke has worked very hard the past four years, to reach such a goal,” said J. Lechleitner, who also is mom to the senior. “Now, with this achievement behind us, we can focus on the rest of our season.”
Following on the leaderboard for Lake Holcombe, was Kirkman, who shot two, three-pointers, along with Kane, who ended with 5 points. E. Lechleitner also came up with 5 points, while Vavra and Lee each added 2.
