Cadott comes up big over Owen-Withee and Thorp
By Ginna Young
Cadott’s girls basketball program continues to see success, winning both their match-ups over the week.
Dec. 14 vs. Owen-Withee non-conference (W 74-30)
Hosting Owen-Withee, the Hornets brought their offense in the first half, outscoring their opponent, 43-14 before halftime. The second half also saw Cadott’s offense be productive and Owen-Withee was unable to catch up.
Cadott took the non-conference match, 74-30. “I think we’re starting to get comfortable with our identity and style of play,” said coach Dave Hazuga.
Junior Lauryn Goettl ended the night with 20 points, including a three-point shot, followed by sophomore Emma Kowalczyk, with 18 points. Junior Laken Ryan knocked down three shots from long range, finishing with 15 points.
Senior Olivia Goodman also shot a three-pointer and sophomore Bradee Burish added 3 points. Freshman Mozelle Walthers chipped in with 2 points and freshman McKenna Steinke rounded out the scoring with 1 point.
Hazuga says the Hornets spend every game trying to improve on the details, with some excellent sharing of the ball on offense and active hands-on defense.
“We want the girls to have fun competing,” said Hazuga.
Dec. 16 vs. Thorp conference (W 56-30)
The battle was against Thorp, with the Hornets again playing host. Cadott again put up a scoring onslaught on the board in the first half.
“We got off to a great start and kept the game at our pace,” said Hazuga.
The Hornets didn’t score as many points in the second half, but they didn’t need to, claiming the 56-30 victory.
Goettl notched two shots from long range, finishing with 26 points. Kowalczyk also hit from beyond the arc, coming up with 11 points overall, followed junior Elly Eiler, with 7 points.
Ryan again connected from three-point land, for 6 points, followed by junior Eva Enestvedt, with 4 points and 2 points from Burish.
“We will keep approaching everything as a work in progress,” said Hazuga. “We are having success in lots of things we’re doing.”
