Meeting in early-season match, the Cornell and Cadott girls basketball teams saw non-conference action Nov. 30, on Cornell’s court.

With Cadott coming in from the West Cloverbelt, the Chiefs represented the East Lakeland league, but got off to a slow start offensively. By halftime, the Hornets went in with a 45-16 lead.

“I thought the Cornell coaching staff did a nice job with their game plan,” said Cadott coach Dave Hazuga.

It was a numbers game, however, and with a deep bench on their side, Cadott put up more numbers on the board in the second half, while Cornell only managed six points. The game went the way of Cadott, 80-22.

“We got a lot of contributions from everyone,” said Hazuga. “We have been working on things over break…we’re still finding our roles. I’m happy with our team’s effort.”

Leading on the scoreboard for the Chiefs, was sophomores Grace Harycki, with 8 points, while junior Kelsea Popp had 6 and senior Teaira Spaeth ended with 2. Sophomore Myka Hetherington recorded 4 points, and freshman Bralee Schroeder and Alyssa Bowe each knocked down a free throw.

On Cadott’s side, junior Laken Ryan shot for four baskets from long range, finishing with 15 points. Also getting in on the three-point action for a basket, were junior Elly Eiler, with 17 points; sophomore Emma Kowalczyk, with 13 points; freshman Taryn Donahue, with 5 points; senior Olivia Goodman, and freshmen Kasey Moldren and Mozelle Walthers, each with 3 points.

Rounding out the scoring, were junior Eva Enestvedt and McKenna Steinke, who each shot for 2 points.
