Lake Holcombe split their conference games over the week, heading to Bruce, before hosting Winter in a Fridaynight match-up.

Oct. 5 vs. Bruce conference (W 3-0)

Traveling to Bruce, Lake Holcombe brought in the conference win, after a close first set, 25-18. The second set was even closer, 25-20, and the third was the closest yet, 25-23, but the Chieftains wouldn’t go down.

“We worked some different lineups in this match, and the team worked hard to communicate effectively and come out on top in these sets,” said coach Beth Meddaugh.

Junior Karly Kirkman led on kills, with 8, with senior Brooke Gingras right behind, with 5. Freshman Chloe Lee came up with 10 assists, while junior Hannah Wincek ended with 6.

Leading on digs, was sophomore Ella Hartzell, with 15, and Wincek added 9 and also had 5 aces.

Oct. 8 vs. Winter conference (L 3-2)

The Chieftains then welcomed Winter, dropping the first set, 25-11. Lake Holcombe came back in the second set to take it, 25-18, but Winter answered back in the third, with a 25-16 win.

Lake Holcombe brought in the win in the fourth set, 2521, but Winter wouldn’t be denied, and took the fifth and final set, 15-7.

“The team played well against Winter, but fell just short at the end,” said coach Beth Meddaugh.

Gingras added 8 kills, as did Kirkman, while Wincek recorded 17 assists and Lee had 8. Hartzell ended with 28 digs, followed by Wincek, with 18. Hartzell also notched 5 aces.

“We again were able to utilize versatile players and the team’s ability to work together, and I’m proud of the team for being able to play so well,” said Meddaugh.

The Chieftains now sit at 5-5 in the conference.
