Cadott faces long stretch on court ahead of playoffs


The Hornets saw a hectic week, with Cadott’s volleyball team hosting Fall Creek, then heading on the road for a match and a weekend tournament.
Oct. 5 vs. Fall Creek conference (L 3-0)
To begin the week, Fall Creek came to call.
“We had a slow start against an aggressive team and we just couldn’t overcome it,” said coach Lynn Schreiner.
The first set went to the Crickets, 25-10, but the Hornets came closer in the second set, 25-15. Cadott tried to overcome Fall Creek in the third set, but couldn’t quite pull it out, dropping it, 25-17.
“We played much more aggressively in the third set, which we need to continue into the playoffs,” said Schreiner.
Junior Lauryn Goettl finished the night with 5 kills, 9 assists and 8 digs, while junior Elly Eiler had 6 kills and 8 digs, and sophomore Makenna Harel added 10 digs.
Oct. 7 vs. McDonell conference (L 3-0)
Two days later, Cadott headed to McDonell, just missing out on the first set, 25-20. The remaining two sets weren’t as close – 25-11 and 25-15 – and McDonell took the win.
Goettl came away with 6 kills, 8 assists and 8 digs on the night, with Eiler recording 8 kills, 4 assists and 5 digs.
Oct. 9 vs. Altoona Invitational (L 3-1)
To end the week, the Hornets competed at Altoona, in an invitational against four area teams.
First up, was non-conference opponent Clear Lake, where Cadott dropped the sets, 25-19 and 25-15.
Goettl notched 7 kills, 1 ace and 4 digs, and Eiler ended with 10 assists and 3 digs.
Host Altoona was up next in a non-conference match-up. Cadott started off strong, bringing in the sets, 25-12 and 2519.
Eiler added 3 kills, 5 assists, 4 aces and 8 digs to the day’s stats, while Goettl had 5 kills, 3 assists and 6 digs, and junior Laken Ryan notched 2 aces.
It was then time to face Unity, with Cadott seeing the sets go to their opponents, 25-16 and 25-22.
Goettl ended with 5 kills, 6 assists and 6 digs, and Eiler added 4 kills, 6 assists and 8 digs. Senior Olivia Goodman recorded 3 kills and 6 digs.
The final opponent of the day was Grantsburg, where Cadott dropped both sets, 25-11 and 25-19.
Goodman finished with 4 kills, Eiler came away with 4 kills, 3 assists and 3 digs, and Goettl had 3 kills, 6 assists and 2 digs.
