In their only match of the week, Lake Holcombe’s volleyball program made the trek to Birchwood, in a conference match-up. The Chieftains won over their host in the first set, 25-19, but Birchwood came back in the second to take the set, 25-14.
Lake Holcombe wasn’t finished and went on to win the final sets, 25-23 and 25-15.
We were dealing with some illness and injury this week, so we had to switch the line-up a bit,” said coach Beth Meddaugh, “but shared JV/varsity players Hannah Wincek and Emma Lechleitner, and JV player Emily Kirkman stepped up and played well to fill key roles.”
Senior Brooke Gingras led on kills for Lake Holcombe, with 10, and sophomore Ava Story had 8. Freshman Chloe Lee notched 12 assists and the junior Wincek ended with 7. Sophomore Ella Hartzell recorded 21 digs on the night.
“The girls played pretty well tonight,” said Meddaugh.
