Chieftains breeze by South Shore

In the final home game of the season for the Lake Holcombe football program, South Shore came calling Oct. 1. The game would belong to the Chieftains from the start, when senior Colton Minnick came up with an 18yard touchdown run.
The two-point conversion was good and Lake Holcombe never looked back. Sophomore Trent Nitek scored the next touchdown on a 12-yard pass from Minnick, while Minnick notched two more touchdowns before the end of the first quarter.
“It was a much needed win for us,” said coach Brandon Baldry. “We had too many mental mistakes, but were able to overcome them.”
Nitek scored again to start the second quar- ter, to go up 36-0. The Cardinals got on the board with a 77-yard kickoff return, but that would be all for South Shore. Lake Holcombe added 42 more points before the end of the game, to take the win, 78-6.
“We are learning to play with last-minute adversity, hoping to become healthy next week,” said Baldry.
Minnick ended with 28 yards on passing and had 215 yards rushing, with 4 touchdowns. Senior Nate Jones added 8 yards rushing, while Nitek finished with 28 yards receiving. Defensively, freshman Trent Lee came up with an interception for a touchdown.
“It was a great win,” said Baldry, “but the biggest win of the night, was our community support during our halftime veterans’ honoring.”
