Cadott watches games slip out of their grasp

Cadott’s volleyball program battled hard throughout the week, but couldn’t come up with the wins against their many opponents.
Sept. 28 vs. Stanley-Boyd conference (L 3-0)
Starting off their week, the Hornets hosted rivals Stanley-Boyd. The first set was a close one, with the Orioles winning, 25-19. The next sets weren’t as close, with Stanley-Boyd taking the victories, 25-16 and 25-10.
Junior Lauryn Goettl ended with 6 kills, 2 aces, 9 assists and 16 digs, while junior Elly Eiler had 7 kills, 5 assists and 9 digs, and junior Laken Ryan came up with 13 digs.
Sept. 30 vs. Osseo-Fairchild conference (L 3-0)
With spirits high for the home court match, Cadott started out hot, but the Osseo-Fairchild Thunder bounced back to take the win in three sets, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-14.
“We played much smoother last night than we have the past couple of weeks,” said coach Lynn Schreiner. “Our serving and serve receive did struggle a bit against a very aggressive serving team, but overall, we seemed to be much more aggressive at the net and moving faster on defense.”
Goettl led on the night, with 5 kills, 2 aces, 6 assists and 11 digs. Eiler ended with 5 kills and 7 digs, and sophomore Emma Kowalczyk had 4 kills, 1 ace and 6 digs.
Oct. 2 vs. New Richmond Invitational (L 4-0)
To finish out the long week, Cadott headed to New Richmond, facing off against the host school to start the tournament. New Richmond would walk away with the sets, 28-15 and 25-23.
Eiler had 5 kills and 6 digs, and Kowalczyk added 3 kills and 6 digs.
The Hornets then faced Somerset, dropping the first set, 25-18, but coming back to win in the second set, 25-18. The third set would go the way of Somerset, 15-7.
Eiler added 7 kills and 13 digs, with Goettl notching 6 kills, 1 ace and 6 digs, while Ryan had 6 aces, 1 kill and 3 digs.
Altoona was next up on the schedule, winning the sets 2523 and 26-24.
Eiler continued racking up kills, with 4, and had 8 digs, Goettl recorded 2 aces, 4 assists and 6 digs, and Ryan added 1 ace and 7 digs.
The final opponent of the day was Baldwin-Woodville, where the Hornets dropped the first set, 25-17, but rallied to take the second set, 25-14. Baldwin refused to be denied and came up with the win in the third set, 15-8.
Goettl finished with 6 kills, 2 aces, 8 assists and 11 digs, while Eiler had 5 kills and 6 digs.
