Tridents top T-birds for conference win at home

Kicking off the conference season Sept. 2, the Lake Holcombe- Ladysmith-Flambeau-Bruce-Bloomer Trident Swim team hosted Lakeland Union. The Tridents swam well to finish the night with a 97-71 victory.
“I was very happy with how the girls performed, both as individuals and as a team tonight,” said coach Matt Bunton.
To open the meet, the Tridents took first, second and fourth place finishes in the 200-medley relay. Then, in the 200-yard freestyle, junior Madeline Bunton took first place, with a time of 2:07.25, while juniors Michelle Gaddy and Macy Kennedy scored much needed points, coming in fourth and fifth.
Sophomore Madilyn Kempen then took first place in the 200-individual medley, with a time of 2:39.63, with freshmen teammates Sarah Allard and Lauren Hanson claiming third and fourth places, respectively.
The 50-yard freestyle race then saw senior Brooke Lechleitner clock a 0:25.42, to take first place, with junior Sadie Heath taking third place, with a personal best time of 0:29.00, and junior Alaina Meskill scoring a point, taking the fifth place position.
The second half of the race featured freshman Sarah Allard, junior Sanaa Trott and freshman Alyxandria Lunemann, claim the third, fourth and fifth places, in a very fast 100-yard butterfly. Lechleitner was then back in the pool in the 100-yard freestyle, to capture first place, with a time of 0:57.87.
Heath and freshman swimmer Lauren Hanson took third and fourth place finishes, with times of 1:04.11 and 1:15.65. The 500-yard freestyle featured Madeline Bunton hitting the wall, with a time of 5:42.78 for first place, while teammates Alyxandria Lunemann, freshman, and Caitlyn Kolter, junior, came up with third and fourth place finishes, with times of 7:03.87 and 9:31.64.
“This was Caitlyn’s first time swimming the long distance race and she did really, really well,” said Matt. “She spent considerable time this summer, in the weight room and outdoors exercising, and it shows!”
The meet wrapped up with the Tridents seeing second and fourth place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and second and third in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Kempen and Gaddy took first and second in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Additionally, junior Sanaa Trott, freshmen Kayleen Powell and Alaina Meskill claimed the third through fifth place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke.
“We still have a lot of work to do, but I’m certainly pleased with the direction we are heading,” said Matt.
