Starting a hectic week, the Cadott volleyball team began their season with a home triangular, then took part in a two-day invitational.

Aug. 24 vs. Neillsville non-conference (W 2-0)

On their home court, the Hornets faced off against a determined Neillsville team in a triangular match-up, but would prevail in the end, taking the two matches, 25-20 and 25-22.

โ€œIt was exciting getting to kick off our season at home,โ€ said coach Lynn Schreiner.

Senior Makenna Barone led on the night, with 7 kills, 3 blocks and 3 aces, followed by junior Lauren Goettl, who ended with 6 kills and 4 aces. Junior Elly Eiler finished with 5 kills and 11 digs, and junior Laken Ryan came away with 9 digs and 1 ace.

Aug. 24 vs. Augusta non-conference (W 2-0)

Next up, was Augusta in the triangular, with Cadott getting more into a rhythm. The Hornets took two sets with 25-3 and 25-16 wins.

โ€œIt was great to see them come together when there was pressure and [we] hope to continue building on this throughout the season,โ€ said Schreiner.

Barone again led with 5 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces and 7 digs, with Eiler right behind with 5 kills and 4 assists. Goettl rounded things out with 8 assists and 4 aces.

Aug. 27-28 UW-Stout Invitational (W 4-3)

It was then off to a two-day invitational, for seven matches against some strong opponents. There, the Hornets finished the weekend in 14th place out of 40 teams, taking out such powerhouse teams such as E.C. North, Wausau West and Rice Lake.

โ€œI was very proud of how the girls fought for every point and we really grew as a team throughout the weekend,โ€ said Schreiner.

Going up against Prescott, Barone notched 11 kills, while Goettl ended with 6 kills, 13 assists and 2 aces. Eiler had 5 kills and Ryan added 4 digs.

In a match-up with St. Croix Falls, Eiler came up with 3 kills; Goettl had 6 assists; and Ryan finished with 6 digs and 2 aces.

Against Rice Lake, Barone ended with 5 kills and 6 digs, with Goettl recording 7 assists, while Eiler finished with 3 kills, 1 ace, 3 assists and 4 digs.

Another match, this time against Wausau West, saw Barone rack up 8 kills and 3 aces, followed by Eiler, who had 5 kills and 4 assists. Senior Olivia Goodman chipped in with 3 kills, while Goettl ended with 13 assists and 4 aces. Ryan also added 5 digs.

Facing off with familiar conference opponent McDonell, Eiler recorded 6 kills and 7 assists. Goettl added 5 kills and 7 assists, with Barone providing 5 kills and 3 digs. Sophomore Makenna Harel also got in the score book with 3 digs.

E.C. North was another team the Hornets faced and won against, with Goettl notching 12 kills, 10 assists and 10 digs. Eiler came up with 6 kills, 13 assists and 2 blocks in the match-up, followed by Barone, with 9 kills and 2 aces, and Ryan, with 14 digs.

To finish out the tournament, Cadott was matched up with E.C. Memorial, where Barone ended with 8 kills and 8 digs, while Ryan had 2 aces and 4 digs โ€œThis weekend helped show things we still need to fine tune, but I am excited to watch this team continue to grow,โ€ said Schreiner.
