It’s been a whirlwind end-of-season for senior Izzy Clark, as the Cornell-Lake Holcombe softball hurler finished her high school career on two milestones. Clark not only pitched a no-hitter June 1, but was also named as the East Lakeland Conference Player of the Year (POY).

The two feats are not new to the recent high school graduate, as she threw for a no-hitter in her sophomore year, also receiving POY that season.

“It’s not only the pitcher that’s the outcome of a no-hitter, it’s the team behind her, it’s the catcher,” said Clark. “You can’t throw without a good catcher.”

Although she lost a season in 2020, with the cancelation of it, because of COVID-19, Clark continued to work with her dad last summer, and in the off-season. Those efforts paid off, with the recognition of POY.

“I’ve been working for that pretty hard,” said Clark, again crediting her teammates to the success. “We just used each other to get better every day.”

Now that her high school career is behind her, Clark has signed to play with the Itasca Community College softball program in Grand Rapids, Minn., where she will play for a couple years, while studying to become a secondary education teacher. After that, Clark will transfer to another university, based on the opportunity to play softball.

In the long run, Clark’s goal is to one day become a coach in her own right.

“That’s my plan,” she said. “I for sure want to come back and coach.”
