Hornets season comes to end in second round

By Ginna Young

Going in as the No. 5 seed, the Cadott softball squad prepared for a match-up with the No. 1 seeded Glenwood City on their home turf June 16, in second round Regional action. The Hilltoppers struck first, getting on the board in the first inning with a run, but Cadott answered back in the second, with a run of their own.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, that run would be all they’d get in the game, as the Hilltoppers opened up a scoring barrage, racking up another nine runs to take the win. With the 10-1 victory, the Regional championship went to the home team and Cadott’s season came to an end.

“We had a great season, just a lot of little things didn’t go our way,” said coach Kari Moldrem. Defensively, junior Makenna Barone took the pitcher’s mound, going six innings, and giving up 6 hits and 8 walks, while striking out 9.

Knocking in hits offensively, were senior Meadow Barone, junior Olivia Goodman, sophomores Lauryn Goettl, Elly Eiler and Morgan Moldrem, and freshman Kendall Webster, who all ended with a hit each.

“This was an amazing team, that gave our seniors a season to remember,” said K. Moldrem.
