Cadott falls shy of advancing athletes to State

Sectional competition saw the Cadott Hornets Track team at Cameron, June 24, with the athletes ready to take on whatever the other schools had to offer.

“It was a very exciting meet, as we had a number of athletes running in the meet,” said coach Pat Rothbauer.

Finishing tied for 17th place, the boys team came off their Regional championship with high hopes, but didn’t place as close to the top as they would have liked.

The 4x400-meter relay team of junior Kaleb Sonnentag, seniors Andy Falkenberg and Brad Irwin, and sophomore Peter Weir, ended in 10th place, with a time of 3:50.04. Finishing with 13th place, the team of sophomores Jacob Rowe and Ty Rowe, and seniors Logan Harel and Sage Handrick,

Cadott senior Meadow Barone rounded the bases June 7, against conference opponent Stanley-Boyd, in the final game before the post-season. The Hornets took the game on their home field, 7-4.

ran in the 4x800-meter relay, for a time of 10:43.28.

Individually, Weir finished in fifth (10:35.68) in the 3,200-meter run; Sonnentag took sixth place in the 400-meter dash (53.99); and junior Tad Weiss came in seventh in the 1,600-meter run (5:02.83).

Weir also placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles, followed by Sonnentag in seventh place (44.33). Taking 13th in the 800-meter run, Weiss came in with a time of 2:19.31, while in the long jump, Irwin was 14th (17-11.75). Junior Cameron Messenger also placed 14th, with his time of 20.14 in the 110-meter hurdles.

Freshman Wyatt Engel followed that up with a 15th place finish in the 110 hurdles (20.45), while Messenger took 15th in the triple jump (35-04.5). In the 100-meter dash, junior Christian Nowak finished 15th (12.10) and sophomore Nick Fasbender placed 16th in the 200-meter dash (26.47).

“It was great to be able to have an entire season this year,” said Rothbauer, “and as always, it was great to see the hard work pay off, as the athletes continued to run new personal bests throughout the season.”

On the girls side, the team ended in 24th place, with the 4x400 relay of seniors Lexxie Rowe, Haylee Rowe and Kaileigh Tice, and sophomore Julia Sedlacek, taking sixth (4:25.25). The 4x100-meter relay team ended in eighth place (55.99), consisting of junior Mallory Kyes, sophomore Julia Sedlacek, and seniors Autumn Yeager and Haylee Rowe.

For the 4x200-meter relay team, Kyes, Yeager, H. Rowe and senior Hailey Wellner came in ninth (1:59.59), while in the 4x800, Yeager, Wellner, senior Taylor Lindsay and sophomore Lucy Lindeman, placed 11th (11:49.55).

On the individual side, senior Carissa Woodford ended in second for the pole vault competition (8-00), and freshman Emma Kowalczyk placed 11th in the 100-meter hurdles (19.02) and 12th in the 300 hurdles (56.14).

L. Rowe had an 11th place finish in the 100 dash (13.38), while Lindeman came in 11th (80-10) in the discus throw. Sedlacek finished in 13th place in the 100 hurdles (19.32) and Lindeman was 15th in the 1,600-meter run (6:48.71).

Senior Kaitlyn Heinzen digs in, ready to drive in some runs for her Cornell-Lake Holcombe team June 17, as the Knights hosted the Regional championships at Mill Yard Park. It was a close game to the end and the Knights fell just short of advancing, with the contest going to Fall Creek, 5-3.

The day’s placings left the Hornets shy of advancing to State.

“We had a great group of seniors and they will certainly be missed next year, not only for their talent, but also for their leadership, as well,” said Rothbauer. “We wish them the best of luck in the years to come.”
