Squeezing in a couple of non-conference games before the playoffs, the Cornell-Lake Holcombe softball squad is ready for the post-season.

June 8 vs. Chetek-Weyerhaeuser non-conference (W 9-7) Heading off to a match-up with Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, the Knights endured a close game, but came away with the victory, 9-7. Senior Izzy Clark took the win, going seven innings and allowing 11 hits. She also earned a hit on offense.

Also coming up with hits for the Knights, were freshmen Grace Harycki and Brooke Anderson, with 2, while senior Kaitlyn Heinzen and junior Jayda Turchen each added a hit.

June 10 vs. Thorp non-conference (L 4-2)

It was then off to Thorp, and while the game was close, the Knights couldn’t pull out the win, dropping the game, 4-2. Clark took the loss, pitching six innings, while giving up 5 hits and 3 walks, and striking out 11.

Turchen ended the night with 2 hits, followed by Clark, Heinzen, Harycki, senior Michaiah Galster and sophomore Michayla Turchen, who all chipped in with a hit.

June 14 vs. Boyceville (W 3-1)

Heading into the first Regional game, the Knights had the advantage as the home team, playing on Cornell’s field against Boyceville. The first few innings remained scoreless, but were action-packed and fast-paced.

Boyceville gave the Knights a run for their money, but with strong defense and some timely hitting, the Knights held on to take the game, 3-1, and advance to the second round of Regionals.

Clark pitched a stellar game, only giving up 4 hits and striking out 17 batters. She, J. Turchen, M. Turchen, junior Teaira Spaeth, Harycki, freshman Makya Heatherington and sophomore Rachel Schilling, each had a hit on offense.
