The Cornell-Lake Holcombe track squad was ready to run over the competition heading into Regionals, with multiple athletes giving their all.

June 8 East Lakeland Conference Championship

It was a hot, steamy day at Flambeau, as the Knights faced some tough competition in the conference championship.

“The kids did very well for how hot it was outside,” said coach Laurie Bowe. “Many of them did their personal best.”

The boys teams took top honors, with the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 all taking first place.

Individually, senior Austin Bowe came in first for the long jump, with a distance of 17-04.5), followed by sophomore Blake Anders in second place for the 400-meter dash. Anders also took third in the triple jump (36-04).

Sophomore Avery Turany finished in second in pole vault (11-06), with sophomore Dylan Bowe right behind, in third (9-06). Senior Jack Porter ended the day in fourth with the triple jump (32-03).

On the girls side, freshman Haily Duffy came in third for the 200-meter dash (30.84), as did freshman Lauren Samardzich for the 400 dash (1:15.28). Junior Carly Vavra placed fourth in the discus event (81-00), while freshman Brooke Sime placed fifth in the 100 dash (14.58) and freshman Marcella Boehm also ended in fifth in the long jump (12-04).

“I feel they are ready for Regionals on Monday,” said L. Bowe.

June 14 Cadott Regional Making the short trek to Cadott, the Knights went into Regionals focused on moving foward, which is exactly what some of the athletes achieved.

“Most of the athletes performed their best,” said L. Bowe. “I am very proud of all the athletes.”

Again placing first ,the 4x100 and 4x200 relays ended on a high note for the boys, while the girls 4x200 team came in second and the 4x100 also qualified for Sectionals.

Turany turned in a good performance in the pole vault competition, placing second (11-09). On the girls side, junior Brooke Lechleitner took first in the 400 dash (1:03.6) and second in the 200 dash (28.39) “We are very excited to see what we can do at Sectionals,” said L. Bowe.
