The schedule was action packed for the Cadott softball squad, as they wrapped up their regular season.

June 1 vs. Regis conference (W 28-6)

The Hornets headed to Regis in a conference match-up, winning the first of a double header, 28-6, over six innings.

Junior Makenna Barone had 8 strikeouts with the win and went 2 for 3 at the plate, with 2 runs batted in (RBIs). Sophomore Morgan Moldrem contributed 3 RBIs on the night.

“Elly Eiler was a ball magnet,” said coach Kari Moldrem, “getting hit by a pitch four out of the six times the first game, and also got hit a fifth time in the second game.”

The second game also went the way of the Hornets, as they ran over the Ramblers, scoring 13 runs in five innings, while holding the home team to three runs.

Senior Calli Bremness pitched the game for the Hornets, with 4 strikeouts, while Barone had a big night at the plate, hitting 2 triples and notching 4 RBIs in the win.

June 3 vs. Osseo-Fairchild conference (W 6-1)

Two days later, the Hornets followed up their back-to-back victories with a trip to Osseo- Fairchild, with a strong defensive effort, holding the Thunder to just one run, coming in the first inning. It was all Cadott after that and the visitors took the game, 6-1.

Barone took the win, going seven innings and recording a no-hitter, possibly the first in the Hornets’ softball program history. She also ended with 2 hits on the offensive side.

Junior Olivia Goodman and sophomore Lauryn Goettl also had 2 hits each, followed by Bremness, with 1.

June 4 vs. McDonell conference (L 4-3)

There was no rest for Cadott, as they headed to McDonell, where the Hornets were left scoreless throughout five innings. Meanwhile, the Macks added four runs and kept the lead until the sixth inning, when the Hornets came alive, scoring three runs.

It wouldn’t be enough and McDonell claimed the 4-3 victory.

Barone went six innings in the contest, allowing 5 hits, but striking out 9, while adding a hit on the offensive side. Goodman again came through with 2 hits, and Goettl, Bremness, senior Meadow Barone and soph- omore Elly Eiler each scored a hit.

June 7 vs. Stanley-Boyd conference (W 7-4)

With a weekend’s rest under their belts, Cadott was ready to play, hosting Stanley-Boyd. The Hornets knocked in two runs in the second inning to take the lead, but the Orioles would answer back in the third, getting four runs across the plate.

Cadott wouldn’t be stopped and held their opponents scoreless throughout the rest of the game, while bringing in a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh, to take the 7-4 victory.

“Makenna hit a walk-off grand slam tonight, to beat Stanley Boyd,” said K. Moldrem.

M. Barone was again on the mound, going 6.33 innings, with 9 hits and a strikeout.

Offensively, Bremness and M. Moldrem led with 2 hits each. Recording a hit each, were Goodman, Makenna Barone, Eiler, sophomore Eva Enestvedt and freshman Bella Barone.

Cadott ends their record at 9-10 overall and 7-6 in the West Cloverbelt Conference.
