Hornets can’t hold off Rails

By Ginna Young

Getting a break over the week, thanks to rainy weather, the Cadott softball squad played host to Altoona May 25. The Rails got on the board in the first inning, with two runs, and another in the second, while Cadott remained scoreless.

Neither team scored in the third inning, but by the fourth inning, Altoona added three more runs. The Hornets got on the board in the sixth, with a run, but the Rails would hold their lead to take the West Cloverbelt Conference game, 6-3.

Junior Makenna Barone took the loss for the Hornets on the mound, giving up just 5 hits, while striking out 10 and walking 2.

The Hornets’ bats were quiet during the game, with only four batters recording a hit each – Barone, senior Calli Bremness, sophomore Elly Eiler and freshman Kendall Webster. Bremness also added a walk, while Barone scored the lone run.

In conference action, Cadott’s record is 5-4, with the overall standings at 7-8.
