Hornets showing growth as the season moves along

May 11 Cadott Invitational
Cadott’s track program is getting back into stride as they move along in the season, hosting two home meets this week.
To begin the week of meets, the Hornets welcomed five other schools to the Cadott track. The girls brought in top honors for the team, placing third, while the boys ended in fourth.
Taking first in events for the Hornets, were sophomore Wyatt Engel, with a time of 19.49, and sophomore Peter Weir in the 300-meter hurdles (44.95). Junior Kaleb Sonnentag came in second for the 400-meter dash, while senior Brad Irwin achieved personal bests in the long jump (18-03) and discus throw (103-11) placing second.
Junior Cameron Messenger followed that up with a third place finish in the 300 hurdles (50.38) and junior Tad Weiss also ended third in the 800-meter run (2:23.54). Weir also took third in the high jump, with a height of 5-04.
Andy Falkenberg, senior, also placed third for the pole vault (8-06).
“We are still trying to put athletes into a variety of events, so we can get a better picture of what stands to get us the most points in the meet,” said coach Pat Rothbauer.
On the girls side, sophomore Julia Sedlacek finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (19.85), with freshman Jaycee Stephens just a step behind in third (20.67). Senior Taylor Lindsey came in second in the 800 run (2:55.27).
Senior Carissa Woodford ended the day in third place for pole vault (7-00), as did senior Lexxie Rowe in the high jump (4-04).
The relay teams also did the Hornets proud, as the boys’ 4x200-meter relay earned first place, from runners Falkenberg, sophomore Nick Fasbender, Irwin and junior Christian Nowak, in a time of 1:44.22.
The girls’ 4x400-meter relay, consisting of Rowe, Sedlacek, senior Hailey Wellner and senior Kaileigh Tice, also brought in first place (4:30.29).
“Not having track last year, has really made a big difference, but the coaches, as well as the athletes, are starting to get back into the swing of things,” said Rothbauer.
May 14 Cadott Invitational
Cadott again hosted multiple schools, this time in the William E. Dejung Invitational, where both the teams placed fourth out of the attending schools.
Weir again placed high, earning first in the 300 hurdles (44.02) and second in the 110-meter hurdles (19.40). Irwin also came in near the top, with a second place finish in the long jump (18-01). Engel also placed high, in third place for the 300 hurdles (19.56).
“This was a very good meet, as it was an unlimited event,” said Rothbauer. “We are getting down to the part of the season where the meets are more restricted, as far as entries go, so it is great to be able to put a lot of athletes in different events.”
On the girls side, Sedlacek placed second in the 100 hurdles (19.77) and Lindeman ended in second in the discus (91-04).
The 4x200 team of Falkenberg, Sonnentag, Nowak and Fasbender, came in first for the boys (1:43.42) with the best time of the year, as well as the 4x400 relay taking first, consisting of Sonnentag, Fasbender, Irwin and Weir (3:47.47).
Running their way to first place for the girls 4x800-meter relay, were senior Autumn Yeager, Wellner, Lindeman and Lindsay (12:27.12).
“Our athletes are working hard and are showing the kind of growth that the coaches like to see,” said Rothbauer.
