Taking on their rival Cornell Chiefs, the Lake Holcombe boys basketball program played host at the Feb. 5 match-up. As the season draws to a close in the East Lakeland Conference, every contest becomes even more important, which is why each team gave it their all.

The Chieftains held a scoring clinic in the first half, leading over Cornell, 50-24. While the score was closer after halftime, the Chiefs still had some trouble mustering their offense.

Lake Holcombe was limited to 27 points in the second half, but with Cornell scoring only 14, the match went to the Chieftains, 77-38.

Senior Kaden Crank led the way for Lake Holcombe, with 27 points, including a shot from long range. He also added 10 rebounds, 7 steals and 3 assists, while making four out of five free throws. Senior Will Kliegle ended the night with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists.

Junior Colton Minnick recorded 9 points during the game, three of those from long range, along with 2 rebounds, 2 steals and 4 assists. Senior Riley Gingras also was hot from three-point land, with his 9 points all coming from beyond the arc, as well as having rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.

Senior Brock Flater added 8 points and 8 assists, followed by junior Dylan Bowen, with 6 points (three from long range), 1 rebound and 1 assist. Senior Tate Sauerwein followed that up with 4 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Sophomore Harley Schroeder rounded out the scorebook, with 2 points, 1 rebound and 2 steals.

On Cornell’s side, sophomore Dylan Bowe finished his night with 10 points, with senior Austin Bowe right behind, with 8. Senior Logan Shemick and freshman Daniel Person each added 6 points, and senior Davis Harshman came away with 3.

Sophomores Avery Turany and Jack Blaisdell each scored 2 points, and senior Jake Sikora chipped in with 1.
