Hornets can’t stop Macks in back-to-back contests

There were two games on Cadott’s schedule this week for the boys’ basketball program, as the Hornets faced off against McDonell.

Jan. 15 vs. McDonell conference (L 71-55)

Hosting the visiting Macks, Cadott looked to improve their win record and standing in the West Cloverbelt Conference, but McDonell had other ideas.

The Hornets went into halftime, down 41-22. In the second half, Cadott’s offense woke up, scoring 33 points, while holding the Macks to 30. Because of McDonell’s larger lead in the first half, the Hornets were unable to catch up and the game went the way of the visiting team, 71-55.

“The score does not tell the justice of the game,” said coach Dusty Burish. “The boys played great competitive ball last Friday, they have been growing so much together the last four games and in aspects of the game as well.”

Senior Brad Irwin led the way, with 15 points for the Hornets, with sophomore Tegan Ritter right on his heels, with 12. Senior Cole Sopiarz ended the night with 8 points, including a couple shots from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Dylan Drehmel also added a three, for 4 points, and senior Andy Falkenberg also came away with 4 points. Freshman Jordan Peters chipped in with 2 points.

Jan. 18 vs. McDonell conference (L 71-32)

It was the Macks turn to host a few days later, as Cadott traveled for their second match-up with McDonell.

Unfortunately for Cadott, the re-match didn’t go as planned and the Hornets dropped the game, 71-32.

With the week’s losses, Cadott’s season record stands at 3-7 overall and 2-5 in conference action.
