Hornets stung by Mosinee

Snow was still on the ground Nov. 13, as the Cadott football team hosted Mosinee, in what is called a “non-conference” game. With COVID cases and exposures changing who played whom in WIAA playoffs, the two teams met to just get in some playing time.

Cadott posted the opening score of the night in the first quarter, with a touchdown. The extra point was sent spinning through goal posts by sophomore Peter Weir and Cadott was up 7-0. Mosinee answered back with a touchdown of their own and the score was tied, 7-7.

The Hornets weren’t happy with a draw and recorded another touchdown, this time in the second quarter. The extra point was again good, but Mosinee added 12 points to the board before halftime.

Cadott looked to break out of halftime with a scoring onslaught, but instead, were held scoreless in the third quarter, while Mosinee went on to notch 16 points. The Hornets held Mosinee scoreless in the fourth quarter, while adding nine points to the board.

It wouldn’t be enough and Mosinee walked away the victors, 35-23.

Senior Nelson Wahl had a good night on offense, with 102 yards receiving and rushing for 8 yards. He also had 128 yards from kick returns. Junior Gavin Tegels passed the ball for 111 yards, with 88 yards earned on rushing.

Sophomore Nick Fasbender ended the night with 78 yards rushing and had 7 assists on defense. Sophomore Tegan Ritter finished with 4 yards rushing and had two receptions for 9 yards. He also recorded 3 assists on defense.

Wahl and junior Ryan Sonnentag each finished with 4 assists, while Tegels had 2 assists and earned a sack, and senior Brad Irwin contributed 2 sacks.

Cadott will also face Desoto, Nov. 19, in what will be their final game of the season, also a non-conference match-up.
