In what would be the end of their season, the Cornell-Lake Holcombe football squad traveled to Unity School District Nov. 6.

Unity got on the board first, with a touchdown and a failed extra point attempt, as well as another touchdown before halftime.

The Knights would only score once against Unity, with a touchdown coming in the first quarter from junior Colton Minnick. The score was made by possible by a 75-yard pass by senior Tate Sauerwein, but the point after was no good.

That was it on the offense side for the Knights, while Unity scored twice more in the fourth quarter, to end the game in their favor, 25-6.

During the game, the Knights had 151 yards and Unity racked up 265 yards, but the Knights only recorded one turnover in 36 plays.

Sauerwein ended his high school career with more than 1,000 yards – the second year in a row for the accomplishment – and 50 yards rushing on the night. Senior Brock Flater finished with 6 yards, while Minnick added 5 and junior Sam Ewer chipped in with 1 yard.

The Knights were set to face off against No. 2 Turtle Lake, as a No. 3 seed in their bracket of the first round of playoffs, but because Lake Holcombe’s High School needed to go virtual, because of too many quarantines, the Knights’ season is at an end.

The team finished 4-3 on the season and bid a fond farewell to the senior classmen.
