Finishing up their last week of regular play, the Cadott Hornets Volleyball team took to the road to do battle in the annual East/West Cloverbelt Conference match-up against Owen-Withee, then saw Gilman come to visit.

Cadott knew the season was closing in on them and brought their A-game in the match-up with Owen-Withee. The Hornets took the first two sets in a knuckle-clencher, 26-24 and 25-22.

“Even though sets one and two were much closer than we were hoping, we were still able to try some people in different spots,” said coach James Bremness. “Proud of how the girls battled through when faced with that adversity.”

Cadott turned on the heat in what would be the third and final set, taking it 25-8 and giving the Hornets the 3-0 road win.

Junior Makenna Barone led the team with 10 kills, while senior Jada Kowalczyk had 7. Sophomore Lauryn Goettl contributed with 14 digs and 3 aces.

“It was nice to get a win,” said Bremness. “We have been in a rut lately and I’m hopeful this win is a start of a long streak as we head into playoffs.”

The Hornets then played host to non-conference opponent Gilman, with the home team earning the closing victory of the regular season.

Cadott won the first sets, 25-16 and 25-12, but Gilman rallied to take the third set, 25-16. The Hornets would not be denied and came storming back to claim the final set, 25-10.

Senior Haylee Rowe finished the night with 30 assists and 4 aces, while Barone had 12 kills and 4 blocks. Sophomore Elly Eiler ended with 9 kills, and Goettl recorded 22 digs and 5 aces.

The wins put Cadott’s final record at 8-6 overall and 3-7 in the conference.
