Pacelli runs past Greyhounds

Loyal’s defense knew it would have its hands full on Oct. 9 with Stevens Point Pacelli star running back Brycen Cashin. What the Greyhounds did not know was that the Pacelli defense packs just as much of a punch.

Cashin rushed for 214 yards and three touchdowns and the Pacelli defense held Loyal to 122 yards of total offense in a 41-0 Central Wisconsin-Small Conference win. The result evened Loyal’s record at 1-1, with its next contest to come Oct. 15 (Thursday evening) at Wisconsin Rapids Assumption.

Neither Loyal nor Pacelli found the end zone in the first quarter. The first points of the night came from Pacelli’s defense, as Drew Kedrowicz returned an interception 17 yards for a score with 2:07 left before the half. Pacelli was then able to get the ball back quickly, and scored again at the 1:06 mark on a Nicholas Schroeder 3-yard run to take a 13-0 lead at the half.

Cashin went to work in the third quarter, scoring on runs of eight yards at the 8:29 mark, and 28 yards at the 4:08 mark. He found the end zone again from 7 yards out early in the final quarter and Schroeder finished the scoring with a late 1-yard plunge.

Pacelli accumulated 355 yards of total offense, with Cashin getting his 214 yards on 22 carries. Schroeder added 149 yards on 20 attempts. Pacelli went to the pass only three times, with one completion for 14 yards.

Loyal ran for 108 yards, but 41 of that was negated in quarterback sacks. Matthew Szymanski managed 44 yards on 15 carries and Sullivin Hanson added 31 yards on 13 attempts.

Quarterback Wyatt Dietsche passed eight times with three completions for 55 yards and two interceptions. Szymanski, Louie Nikolai and Drew Stieglitz each had one reception.
