With strong finishes from all five girls on the Loyal-Greenwood cross country team, the Greyhound girls were able to take home two first-place team finishes this week. Running at Levis Mound on Sept. 15 and at home on Sept. 19, athletes from both the girls and the boys teams ran fairly consistent times to help their teams earn their placings.

At the meet hosted by Neillsville-Granton on Sept. 15, the Greyhound girls competed in a 26-runner field, with all the runners finishing in the top half. Leading the way was Savannah Schley with her first-place run, which she did in 21:39. She was followed by Rylan Lindner, who completed the 5,000-meter course in 24:49 for fourth. Leah Scherer took eighth place with a time of 26:18, Aubre Robida ran a 26:52.7 for 10th, and Maci Bogdonovich placed 13th with a time of 27:30.

Competing in a slightly larger field of 30 runners, Avrey Horvath was the top finisher for the Loyal-Greenwood boys. He placed fourth overall with a time of 18:20. Cody Eckes was the next finisher for the Greyhounds, taking 11th with a time of 21:30. Finishing in 15th place was Ashton Palms, who completed the course in 21:47. Also running for the boys were Seth Genteman (17th, 23:28), Jaden Ruggles (18th, 23:48) and Vaughn Zettler (24th, 26:24).

As a team, the Loyal-Greenwood girls earned 36 points to put them in first place. Neillsville-Granton was second with 55 points, Cadott took third with 59 points and Osseo-Fairchild was fourth with 60 points. Marshfield Columbus and Owen-Withee fielded incomplete girls teams.

For the boys, Loyal-Greenwood took third with 56 points, finishing ahead of Marshfield Columbus (64) and Osseo-Fairchild and Owen-Withee, which both fielded incomplete boys teams. Cadott was second (50) and Neillsville-Granton took first (43).

Loyal Meet on Sept. 19

Competing on their home field for the second time this year, the Loyal-Greenwood girls and boys were able to take first and second place, respectively, as a team on Sept. 19.

Finishing at the head of the 19-runner pack was Savannah Schley, who took the top spot with her time of 21:06. Rylan Lindner was the next Greyhound runner to complete the course, taking third overall with a time of 23:54. Leah Scherer was next, placing sixth with a time of 25:28. Aubre Robida took eighth with a time of 25:46 and Maci Bogdonovich took 13th with a time of 26:37.

In the boys race, Avrey Horvath ran to a second-place finish, completing the course in 18:23. Connor Genteman followed closely behind to take fourth with a time of 19:03. Placing 10th was Seth Genteman, who ran a 20:43. Also running for the Loyal-Greenwood boys were Cody Eckes (12th, 21:02), Jaden Ruggles (16th, 22:36) and Vaughn Zettler (22nd, 24:41.) Earning 23 points, the Loyal-Greenwood girls took first place at their home meet. Placing second was Colby-Abbotsford with 32 points. Thorp-Gilman, Chippewa Valley Lighting Bolts and Owen-Withee all fielded incomplete girls teams.

The Loyal-Greenwood boys placed second from among the teams at the meet with 39 points. Colby-Abbotsford took first with 38 points and the Chippewa Valley Lightning Bolts were third with 44 points. Thorp-Gilman and Owen-Withee fielded incomplete boys teams.
