Work continues on former Athens Municipal Building

Progress Athens continues their work in improving the community of Athens. One of their projects is the electronic sign in front of the new Athens Municipal Office Building. It was completed in the last month and now shares information regarding the community.

The village municipal offices and the Athens branch of the Marathon County Public Library have been in their new building for over three months. Overall, the patrons of the library continue to remark on the openness and brightness of the new space and the children love their new area. The number of items checked out of this branch in January 2024 was 16 percent higher than the number of items checked out in January 2023.

As the renovation to that building has been completed, work has now begun on the former municipal building. Demolition work in the former library space has been completed and new doorways have been cut through the walls into the Community Hall. These new openings will allow access into the new bathrooms, the new storage room, and the new kitchen space.

For this portion of the project, the floor in part of the former library area has been raised three feet to match the Community Hall floor height. Also, the framing for the bathrooms, kitchen and storage room is in place. The space will soon be ready for plumbers and electricians.

The changing rooms on the Community Hall stage have been completed and are already being used by athletes.

Progress Athens Foundation has a vision and focus on enhancing the Community of Athens for current and future generations. As this project nears completion, another project will be selected.
