July 26, 2000 – The Spencer Board of Education refused to raise school lunch prices despite having a $10,000 deficit in its hot lunch program in the 2000-01 school year. The school lunch prices were $1.40 for students in grades K-4, $1.75 for students in grades 5-12, and $3 for adults.
– The newly created Oakview Estates off of County Highway G and River Road on the west side of the Black River in Greenwood was open for new builds. New street, water, sewer, electri,c and telephone lines were all installed in the new 30-acre residential subdivision. Two of the 36 lots in the subdivision were designated as the location for a future park.
– Several benches had been constructed by the Loyal FFA and placed near the Loyal city park near the American Legion hall and the Loyal City Cemetery in memory of the late Elmer Ratzburg, who was well-known in the community for his handiwork.
– An open house was to be held for the new Granton Area Fire and Rescue Station on July 30. The new 70-foot by 120-foot station had recently been completed to replace the old station on the south side of the village, which was being sold by the department to help pay for the new building.
July 23, 1980 – The Spencer Village Board voted to buy a chemical feed pump for well 3 and rebuild well 2 in order to try to improve the water quality in the village. There had been some complaints about the hardness of the water along with the smell, and the village water department was going to experiment during the next few months to see if water quality would be improved with the new strategies.
