– Time For A Tiara: Column by Ginna Young – - I’m cursed, that’s all there is to it

I’m cursed, that’s all there is to it I’m cursed, that’s all there is to it
I regret to inform you, that I am cursed. Yes, it’s true. Through no fault (I think) of my own, I have been cursed, when it comes to ordering online tickets. Technically, it’s not the ordering of them that I have trouble with, it’s the actually getting to the event I ordered them for. I started realizing a pattern last February, when I ordered a ticket online for Jurassic Quest, which was in Eau Claire. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t get the memo that I was going that weekend, and it snowed/froze rain. So, I stayed home and lamented the money I’d spent for nothing. The next weekend, was the opening of Captain America: Brave New World, which was playing at Micon Cinema in Chippewa Falls. I was really excited to go, which was my first mistake...never look forward to anything, it never pans out. That night came and with it, a huge snowstorm. Law enforcement was recommending no travel and I heeded the warning. I mourned the loss of the ticket price, more than not seeing the movie. Around that same time, I ordered my ticket online to see Flo Rida, at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair, in July. I guess I could have waited a bit to get it, but I didn’t know if they’d sell out and I was determined to go see him. Between then and July, I ordered tickets online to go see not one, but two productions, in which one of “my kids” was in, at the Pablo Center in Eau Claire. No trouble and I even got valet parking with it. Those other two times must have been a fluke, right? I thought differently, when I got injured the day of the Flo Rida concert. I wiped out in the office and had severe rug burn, on my right kneecap, as well as lesser rug burn, up and down my right leg. Even though I ended up falling into/onto a plastic decoration tote and shattering it to bits, I didn’t break or sprain anything, but was pretty bruised on the left side of my stomach. Well, should I still try to go? I was in a lot of pain and tender, but dang, I had my ticket for the concert, I had a free vendor ticket to get into the fair and I wanted to see my photos on display. I decided to go ahead and go. Boy, am I glad I did. Not only did I get to see my photos, one of which I got Best in Show for, but I saw so many of my kids, enjoying themselves and that performance by Flo Rida was AMAZING! The pain was totally worth it. A few weeks ago, I again purchased online tickets, to go see a friend’s production of a script reading we did here in Cornell. I got “gussied up,” as Mom termed it and actually made it all the way to Augusta, before disaster struck, the night I had my ticket for. I was visiting Mom, at the aforementioned Augusta, when, walking out of the care center to continue on to the performance, I suddenly developed a migraine. I shouldn’t have, but managed to drive home, before I was completely incapacitated. Another ticket down the drain. After that, I made myself a solemn vow. I was done buying tickets online or pre-ordering them. I kept to that vow for exactly two weeks, until I discovered that Lindsey Stirling was going to be in Eau Claire, in December. I’ve long wanted to see her perform and now, she’d be so close. What to do, what to do? Aha, I had it! Knowing my friend’s husband also wanted to see Stirling in concert, I had her pre-order the tickets, once they went on sale. No, we really couldn’t wait, to see what the weather will be, the seats went really fast. So, I’m hoping that by having someone else pre-order tickets, we’ll be OK and the curse won’t kick in. Maybe I should have her order my ticket for opening night of Wicked: For Good in November. Otherwise, I’m doomed.
