African Guests Visit Farms

Recently two guests from Kenya, East Africa visited the area to learn about financing farmers. Robert Ulrich was their host and guide while they were here and he took them on a tour of the rural areas and his turkey farm.

No Contest in Rib Lake Game

Stratford was able to maintain momentum as they defeated a young, inexperienced Rib Lake team 47-0. Thanks to outstanding kickoffs into the end zone by Jim Zuelke, the Redmen faced the Tigers from poor field position most of the evening.

“Tops” Celebrates Its First Year

In September the Stratford Tops Club weighed in with a loss of 23 ¼ pounds. The thirty-one active members wish to invite the public to their first anniversary night at St. Joseph’s Hall. Beverly Sawyer, president, will preside as Master of Ceremonies. STRATFORD JOURNAL

Homecoming festivities set

The Stratford Tigers will celebrate Homecoming this week. The band will have a special concert Thursday evening followed by a bon fire. The annual parade will be Friday afternoon. The Homecoming football game against Wausau Newman will be Friday evening. Homecoming festivities will culminate with a dance on Saturday night.

Estimates in for village hall remodel

The Stratford Municipal Building could see renovations totaling $98,000 or more in the near future. The Public Works committee of the Village of Stratford heard estimates on an addition to the police department and to exterior and interior renovations. Driving the renovations is the need to fix the crumbling brick of the 1919 building.

New Snowmobile Club

The Hamburg Rainbow Riders snowmobile club was formed in March and held their first fall meeting. The group met at the Hamburg Town Hall under the elected officers of president Ellsworth Zastrow, vice president Kenneth Natzke, secretary Paulette Natzke and treasurer Alta Ziebell. Directors are LaVerne Henrichs, Eugene Stahel and Robert Riemer.

Marathon Homecoming

Mike Kensmire and Cheri Stieber were king and queen for the homecoming activities in Marathon last week. The Red Raiders hosted the Athens Bluejays in the game Friday evening which Marathon won 33-8. The annual parade featured the high school band and floats from classes and organizations.

Edgar fire hall dedication set

The new Edgar fire hall will be dedicated in ceremonies Sunday afternoon according to Chief George Fergot. Rep. Lawrence Day will be the keynote speaker. Village President Del Rasmussen will also give a talk. The Rev. Harvey Jaeger, president of the Edgar Lions Club, will present a Rescue Annie to the fire department as a gift from the club.

New feed mill

Co-owners and employees of Marathon Feed, Inc., gathered to break ground for a new “agricultural manufacturing center” that will move their village of Marathon operations to a town of Cassel site along STH 107. The multi-million dollar facility will develop 11 acres on an 130 acre site acquired from Lyle Lemmer.

Planning for France

A group of Edgar High School French students are preparing for a 21 day tour of France this summer. The sophomores, juniors and seniors planning to go include Krystle Schmitt, Lindsey Kramer, Jessica LeBlanc, Robyn Witucki, Theresa Zimmerman, Traci Krause, Kristin Schneiderer, Diane Lang, Anne Kuehl and Abbey Kuehl.
