Edgar volleyball stays unbeaten in conference play


Edgar’s varsity volleyball squad swept Marathon in straight sets at home on Tuesday to remain undefeated in the Marawood South Conference this season. The Wildcats were ranked No. 7 in last week’s Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association Division 4 poll.
The Wildcats beat the Red Raiders by scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-16. Individual player statistics were not available.
Edgar also swept Rosholt in straight sets in Thursday’s non-conference home match by scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 2521. Senior Ella Baumgartner, junior Naquene Ellenbecker and freshman Jacie Schilling led the Wildcats with nine attack kills each.
Senior Brandi Halverson paced Edgar with three ace serves and Naquene Ellenbecker had two aces. Freshmen Mallory Stencil and Jacie Schilling led the Wildcats with two blocks apiece. Senior Kaitlynn Hartnady paced Edgar with 17 digs on defense and sophomore Carina Seubert added 10 digs.
Halverson led Edgar with 18 pass assists and senior Addy Nowak had 10 assists.
Marathon beat Loyal, 3-1, in Thursday’s non-conference home match. The Red Raiders won the first set, 25-15, and then lost the second set, 25-22. Marathon won the next two sets, 25-20 and 25-19, to win the match.
Junior Katelyn Love led Marathon with 16 attack kills and her sister, senior Emma Love, contributed 10 kills. Junior Mayven Schneider and Katelyn Love paced the Red Raiders with four ace serves apiece while sophomore Brinly Stencil had two aces. Sophomore Chayce Westfall led Marathon with two solo blocks.
Stencil paced Marathon with 15 digs while freshman Laila Weitz had 12 and sophomore Rehgan Martin added 10.
Schneider led the Red Raiders with 25 pass assists and Stencil had 12.
Tigers win matches
Stratford’s varsity volleyball team defeated Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in straight sets in Tuesday’s road match by scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-10.
Senior middle blocker Emily Zuelke led Stratford with eight attack kills and four blocks. Senior Hailey Wiesman paced the Tigers with five ace serves. Junior Carly Pankratz led the team with eight digs and junior Dakota Knetter paced the squad with 12 pass assists.
Stratford edged Tomahawk, 3-2, in Thursday’s non-conference home match. Stratford won the first set, 25-13, before losing the next two sets 25-20 and 25-15. The Tigers won the last two matches, 2515 and 17-15, to win the match.
Zuelke led Stratford with 11 kills and junior Brianna Sherden added eight. Seniors Alaina Bangor and Tria Tubbs paced the Tigers with two aces each. Zuelke led Stratford with five blocks and Tubbs had four. Pankratz paced Stratford with 13 digs and junior Lila Yoder added 12. Knetter paced the Tigers with 14 pass assists and Bangart had 10.
