Military reunion planned for Aug 9 in Medford
Military service members and their families are invited to attend a reunion on Saturday, August 9 at 10 a.m. at the Jaycee Pavilion next to the baseball field in Medford.
What simply began as a reunion for those who served in the Operation Iraqi Freedom Deployment, Operation New Dawn, Medford 724 and Medford 273 quickly snowballed into an event encompassing additional units and family members as organizers realized that there are many others in the community with ties to the military. “We want to invite everyone to be part of this,” said event coordinator Denise Poetzl. “We want to connect and reconnect with people.”
Service members who served part-time or full-time, family members of those who are currently serving, and loved ones of deceased troops are also invited for a relaxing day of fellowship and fun. “We want to connect the past with the present,” Poetzl stated. “Some of the members haven’t seen each other since they got back from the deployments or since they retired.”
The Jaycee Pavilion has a grill, playground, basketball court, sand volleyball pit, ball fields, and river access for fishing. While all are invited to attend, it is important to note that food and beverages will not be provided due to the unknown size of the turnout.
So grab your lawn chair and bring your cooler down to the pavilion for a day of storytelling, reconnection, and camaraderie. This day is for you.
