MEDFORD POST 147 SOFTBALL - Post 147 softball team keeps rolling with sweep of Wausau

The Medford American Legion Post 147 Senior softball team kept its perfect record intact Friday, improving to 6-0 with a doubleheader sweep of Wausau Post 10 in games played at Whittlesey Lions Park.
Post 147 broke open game one with a nine-run bottom of the third that opened up an 11-0 lead. The team tacked on four more in the bottom of the fourth to finish off a 15-1 win.
Rylee Hraby struck out 11, walked two and allowed two hits and one fourthinning run. Offensively, she was three for three with four runs batted in. Finley Arndt was three for three with three runs driven in and three scored. Tori Nicks was two for two.
The home team got two quick runs in the first. Addison Brahmer reached on an error and scored on Arndt’s double. Hraby’s single scored Arndt.
The big third inning started with an Arndt single. She scored on Hraby’s triple. Laney Hraby walked and both Hrabys scored on Kailyn Haenel’s double. Ruthie Steinman singled, Nicks singled to drive in Haenel. Olivia Schaefer drove in a run with a fielder’s choice, Arndt hit a two-run single, Rylee Hraby doubled in a run and Laney Hraby singled in one more.
Rylan Kraschnewski’s RBI single highlighted the three-run fourth.
Things weren’t quite as easy in game two. Wausau took a 7-1 lead through three innings, but a nine-run top of the fourth turned things around and pushed Medford to an 11-9 win.
The big rally started with a single by Haenel. Steinman and Nick walked with Haenel scoring on a wild pitch. Steinman scored on a wild pitch as Kraschnewski walked and Nicks scored on a wild pitch as Brahmer walked. Arndt’s hit scored Kraschnewski. Walks to Rylee and Laney Hraby forced in a run and, with two outs, Steinman got the big hit, a three-run triple to put Post 147 in front 9-7. Nicks then doubled to score Steinman.
Post 147 held on from there, surviving a two-run rally by Wausau in the bottom of the seventh.
Rylee Hraby and Nicks both had two of Medford’s nine hits. Haenel shook off her rough start and picked up the pitching win. She allowed seven hits and seven walks while striking out five and allowing eight earned runs.
Post 147 was scheduled to play at Edgar Tuesday before hosting Antigo Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at JC Field.
