Tom Nelson Reunion held at Dorchester Park

The Thomas “Tom” and Bertha Nelson family met July 9, 2022 at the Dorchester Park for a reunion picnic. The first reunion was the summer of 1963, 59 years ago, at the Harriet and Bud Vircks home.

The Tom Nelson family, with 3 children, moved to the town of Holway from Norway in 1885, after a short period of time in Capron, Illinois. The first two girls were born in Norway, Mary (Leonard) Nelson and Ragna Mathilda (Otto) Nelson. Nellie (Ludwig) Larson was born in Capron, Illinois. The remaining 6 were born in Holway; Olga (Gilbert) Halverson, Nels Nelson, Robert Nelson, Carl Oscar (Marie) Nelson, Clara (Charlie) Berry, and Alma (Casper) Olson.

Family members came from 8 different states, all corners of Wisconsin and very few from Holway. An afternoon of much good food, coffee, conversation, and picture taking was enjoyed. Along with a catered lunch, we had a huge selection of salads and desserts, including homemade fudge and seafoam. Those who had a sample of homemade “mead”, later learned that it received a Grand Champion place at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.

Thanks to Corlas and Kristin Meier for the continued work on the family tree. You are appreciated. Thanks to Jennifer Olson for printing and posting the invitation on Facebook. Thanks to all who served the lunch and all who cleaned up afterwards. Thank you to all the families that took the time to come.

Door prizes were won by Marin Smoje, Mary Kallberg, Echo Buehler, and Charlie Vircks.

It was suggested that the next reunion be held in two years, the end of June 2024.
