Full weekend of 4th of July celebrations around area

Taylor County communities are making a full weekend of fun and activities to celebrate the 4th of July holiday.

Events throughout the community run from Saturday through Monday night with fireworks displays in Medford and Rib Lake on July 3 and in Perkinstown and Jump River on July 4.

In Medford, Huey’s Hideaway and the city of Medford will host Freedom Fest at the City Park. The event runs July 2 and July 3. Events on July 2 include vendor shows in the park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; performers throughout the afternoon and evening, Mr. Concertina George Dums will play from 1 to 3 p.m. with local talent Jackson Taylor to play from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. From 7 to 11 p.m. the Minnesota-based In the Field band will play a mix of rock, country, and pop from today all the way back to the 50’s, - everything from Elvis and Johnny Cash to AC/DC and Journey to Lady Gaga, the BlackEyed Peas, and Zac Brown. All danceable, well-known, upbeat hits. The fulltime band has played over 100 shows a year since 2009 and is popular with street dances, weddings, private parties and events over a five-state region.

At 8 p.m. there will be a competition for the best dress “‘Merica Outfit” and at 9 p.m. there will be a drawing for the 50/50 raffle. Food stands from the Lions, Kiwanis, and El Pueblito as well as the bar will open at noon.

On July 3 there will be a Story Time With A Craft sponsored by the Stetsonville Public Library from 10 to 11 a.m. There will be free Bingo sponsored by River of Hope from 11 a.m. to noon. The city of Medford is offering free swimming from 1 to 3 p.m. At 3 p.m. there will be a free Mischief Magic Show and at 5 p.m. dancers from Feet N Motion Studio will perform. From 3 to 6 p.m. there will be bounce houses and a petting zoo and from 4 to 6 p.m. there will be face painting and balloon animals. From 6 to 8 p.m. Marisa Pop will perform with a drawing for a 50/50 raffle at 8 p.m.

At noon the Lions, Kiwanis and El Pueblito food stands open with Cravings Food Truck opening at 6 p.m.

At Rib Lake fireworks are scheduled for evening of July 3 with a rain date of July 4. Fireworks are shot off on Rib Lake. These fireworks will begin shooting off at dusk.

On July 3 at Perkinstown music will be played at 5 p.m. at the local park as part of “Buck Fest with food at P-Town Inn. Donation meal is served outside at P-Town Inn, regular menu not available after 4 p.m. Visitors are reminded that the store at P-Town closes at 5 p.m. and they should come early to stock up on beer, sunscreen and bug spray.

On July 4 there will be the 4th of July Parade with line up at noon and the parade starting at 1p.m. The parade will be vintage and junk yard themed. There will also be a DJ, Beer Stand, and a Brat and Burger Stand with fireworks at dusk.

At Jump River Community Park there will be the 43rd annual July 4th celebration hosted by the Jump River Lions Club. There will be a parade at 11 a.m. followed by a Tractor Pull beginning at noon. A Kids Pedal Pull, and Horseshoe competition have sign up beginning at 11:30 a.m. and starts at noon. These events will be held at the Jump River Community Park along the Jump River. The day will end with fireworks scheduled to begin about 10 p.m.
