“How can we honor this woman who was so involved with the village?”

Dorothy Halida and members of the 4-H of Lublin have come up with a memorial project to honor a beloved member of their town, Virginia Ustianowski.

Halida suggested to the village board that she and the rest of the 4-H members would like to start The Little Library project in town.

Halida said “I know Rib Lake, Westboro, Medford, and Gilman all have them, and they have been successful, I think this is a great addition to the town. This would also be a good way to honor Virginia.”

She is hoping the project will be completed by spring. Location is still to be determined, but there are multiple places where it could be established. Halida suggested at the pavilion, but then she reconsidered due to the fact that it may get covered with snow from the snowplow or not have good access for snow removal. She also suggested across from the post office, where the bell tower used to be, which is more at the center of the town, possibly put a gazebo there with a bench for people to sit and read. This area was a better place than the pavilion because there would be more traffic in that area which would decrease the likelihood of it getting vandalized.

The VFW was also discussed and possibly the church parking lot. The 4-H club will help keep the library stocked and cleaned up around the area.

The size of the structure is to be determined but it was compared to be the size of a large birdhouse. There will be two shelves, one for children’s books and another for adults.

The board agreed that the project would be a great idea, but they would need more information about the project before they give the go ahead and is going to be discussed at the next meeting.
