10 Years Ago – 2010

The 18th annual Cornell Lions Golf Tournament is held at Holcombe, with the $10,000 Hole-in-One prize still unclaimed after all these years. Finishing in first place, by virtue of fewest putts, is the team of Three Farmers, Plus One – Dan Raatz, Harvey Phelps, Doug Warne and Terry Helgerson.

20 Years Ago – 2000

Cadott Scout Troop 65 spends a summer campout at Bayfield, practicing camping activities and skills, and taking history tours of the area. There were 14 people on the outdoors adventure, which included leaders Randy and Sheila La Rose, Cathy Habeck and Pat Peloquin.

30 Years Ago – 1990

The Head Start program for pre-school children expands to Cornell, after the need is identified in the area. The center will be located on land donated by Donald Ash, on the southeast corner of Bates Street.

40 Years Ago – 1980

Daniel Woeste becomes the new owner of Corner Store Groceries in Cadott, taking over for retiring Joe Liberl, who has run the business since 1955. Woeste is new to the grocery store business, as he was an operations manager for ITT prior his new venture.

50 Years Ago – 1970

Ken Scharmer, owner of the Cornell Pharmacy, holds a grand opening, showing what remodeling has been done to the business. As part of his celebration opening, Scharmer offers free roses to the first 150 ladies to visit his establishment and 150 cigars to gentlemen.

60 Years Ago – 1960

Cadott dairymen Harold Peterson and Errol Huhn, take top honors at the Northern Wisconsin District Fair. The cheese makers entered the cheddar and Colby divisions at the fair.

100 Years Ago – 1920

The Cornell Bakery suffers fire damage, as a blaze began in the oven room wall, behind the boiling kettle. Owner Vern Plesner says he will be up and running as soon as possible, to provide breads and pastries.
