10 Years Ago – 2010

Caitlyn Holcomb, a sixth grader at the Cadott Elementary School, takes district third place in a Lions Club International “Power of Peace” Poster Contest. Holcomb also placed first with a local club award.

20 Years Ago – 2000

Serena Sblendorio brings home a gold medal for Lake Holcombe School in State forensics. Sblendorio was near perfect in her performance, scoring 99 points.

30 Years Ago – 1990

Cadott High School principal Marty Schutz accepts $1,000 from the Cadott Wrestling Booster Club. The donation will be used for a trophy case in the commons, for current and future trophies, highlighting accomplishments.

40 Years Ago – 1980

The Cornell Fire Department responds to 12 grass fires in a week’s span, with many multiple blazes occurring on the same days. One fire was caused by a hot muffler that broke off, one was caused by sparks from a cutting torch and another was caused by a smoldering campfire, while some were undetermined causes.

50 Years Ago – 1970

In efforts to interest Cadott businesses and residences in beautification of the village, the Cadott Woman’s Club is hosting a geranium sale at the former Cadott Color Center. It’s the club’s hope that businesses will jump on board and enrich the landscaping around their buildings, but residents are reminded the flowers are to be used only for village purposes and not for decorating the cemetery.

60 Years Ago – 1960

The Cornell Coin Laundry opens on Main Street, owned by Tom Schoonover, Cornell. He is joined by coowners, Carl Schoonover, Holcombe, and Lloyd Johnson, Eau Claire.

100 Years Ago – 1920

Vern Pleasner purchases the Cornell Bakery from D. D. Williams, with the promise of making the business second to none. Residents are encouraged to patronize the baker, keeping business local.
