Weight limits take effect on county trunk highways

In accordance with sec. 349.16, Wisconsin Statutes, a temporary gross weight limit of 6 tons on any one axle and 10 tons on any tandem axle less than eight feet apart, will be in effect beginning Friday, March 6. Signs will be erected on all Chippewa County trunk highways east of State Hwy. 27 and all county highways north of State Hwy. 64.

Temporary weight limits are typically in effect for approximately six weeks, depending on weather and roadway conditions.

In addition to the above areas, the following county trunk highways will also be posted: County Hwy. J, State Hwy. 29 to County Hwy. K; County Hwy. OO, County Hwy. P to County Hwy. K; County Hwy. TT, County Hwy. K to State Hwy. 27; County Hwy. P, Eau Claire County line to County Hwy. OO; County Hwy. UN, Eau Claire County line to County Hwy. P; County Hwy. K, County Hwy. S to State Hwy. 27; County Hwy. R, State Hwy. 64 to State Hwy. 178; County Hwy. XX, Eau Claire County line to County Hwy. O; County Hwy. MM, County Hwy. X to Clark County line; County Hwy. DD south; County Hwy. DD, State Hwy. 40 to County Hwy. M; and County Hwy. C, State Hwy. 40 to County Hwy. Q.

This is a critical period of time for the county highways, and the county highway department requests support and cooperation for this temporary load limit. Chippewa County will enforce the posted seasonal weight limits and penalties may be imposed under Sec. 348.21, Wis. Statutes for violations.

If it appears necessary to place restrictions on any other Chippewa County trunk highways during this time, signs will be installed as required.
