The Bird Nest brings business to Holcombe
With the holidays just around the corner, The Bird Nest is inviting people to check out their new location. The business is a transplant, moving from Chippewa Falls, to the former Star Graphics building in Holcombe, in early October.
Courtney Anders and her mother, Jennifer Anders, co-own the boutique, which contains home decor of all kinds and gifts suitable for birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas. Both are familiar with the Holcombe area, as they lived there, then left for a few years, before coming back with the business.
“We actually started The Bird Nest three years ago,” said Courtney. “What made us start it, is we both have a love for decorating.”
Courtney attended school for interior design. Jennifer and Courtney also make a good chunk of the things available in the store for purchase.
“A lot of it is made here,” said Courtney. “We try to have about 50 percent of the stuff in the store, made here, by one of us.”
Other things carried in the store includes dip mixes, soy candles, blankets, wool clothing and a men’s soap line, with shampoos, lotions and beard oils.
Custom pieces, such as signs and floral arrangements, are also available. They also offer custom T-shirts and coffee cups, among other things.
Courtney says most of the arrangements use silk flowers, since The Bird Nest doesn’t have cooler space like a floral shop would, but can do real flowers, if asked.
“She’s done a few different wedding bouquets, different things like that,” said Courtney, of her mom. “That’s kind of my mom’s specialty, is the flower arrangements.”
Courtney says they have already received a number of orders for custom signs, which is her specialty, since they moved the business to Holcombe. The signs are designed with a computer program. Those who order a custom sign will get a picture of the sign sent to them for approval. After The Bird Nest receives the approval, they print the signs.
Courtney says most of the signs she makes use vinyl lettering, though she can also do hand-painted and stenciled signs. Wood or metal lettered signs are also available.
“We also teach craft classes,” said Courtney.
She says they have done classes such as glass block, signs of various shapes and sizes, and porch pots.
“Kind of just a little bit of everything,” said Courtney.
The classes are often held on Wednesday nights, but private classes, whether one person or a group, are available for scheduling.
Upcoming classes are posted in the store, as well as on The Bird Nest’s Facebook events page. Courtney says she hopes to get flyers up around town, listing the upcoming events, in the near future.
“Once we get our website up and going, we’ll have them on there as well,” said Courtney.
In the future, they would also like to have local wines available for purchase at the store, with paperwork to offer the products nearly complete.
Courtney says they got support from family and friends since their return to the area.
“It’s good to be home, that’s for sure,” said Courtney.
The Bird Nest is open Tuesday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hours may change after the holiday season, but they plan to keep the shop open five days a week.
