Edgar Middle/High School Principal Tom McCarty will be leaving the district to take on a similar job at a nearby school.

During a special meeting last week, the Edgar School District accepted Mc-Carty’s resignation. McCarty has accepted a position as assistant principal at Mosinee High School. His contract in Edgar expires June 30.

McCarty has served as the middle/high school principal for four years. In his resignation letter, McCarty wrote that he gave his all each day to make a positive impact on the district and Edgar community.

“As a result, resigning was one of the most difficult decisions that I have had to make in a long time, but the opportunity that presents itself was one that was the best for my family,” Mc-Carty wrote.

The principal, who described Edgar as a “special place,” also praised the educators and administrative team in his letter, stating he enjoyed coming to work each day because of his coworkers. McCarty thanked the school board and administration for supporting him during his tenure.

“My four years in Edgar were an experience that I will carry with me as I move forward and the influence of Edgar will certainly be felt in all of my future endeavors,” McCarty wrote.

McCarty had previously worked in the Mosinee School District as a teacher before join- ing Edgar’s ranks. During his time in Edgar, he also served as the girls basketball head coach, being named Coach of the Year for 2023.

The middle/high school principal job has been posted, with the application period open until June 15, according to District Administrator Cari Guden. She said it would be great to have someone hired by July 1, but that timeline may not be possible.

During the June 6 meeting, the school board also approved the resignation of Olivia Kamin, a part-time night custodian, the hirings of Alison Springer as a middle/high school social studies teacher and Brooke Neider as a first grade teacher and Katie Baumgartner’s transfer to high school secretary.
