Lyle Peel Jr.
Lyle E. Peel, Jr., age 68, of Athens, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, under the tender care of lnterim Hospice.
A funeral service were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, 2026, at Christ United Church in Athens. Interment followed at the Athens Public Cemetery. Rev. Teri Hanson presided. Friends were welcomed to greet the family from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.
Lyle was born on February 12, 1958, the son of Lyle and Arba (Steward) Peel, Sr. in Pontiac, Mich. He graduated from high school in Howell, Mich., in 1976. Lyle became the shop manager at Van Der Geest Dairy in 1981and also was a farmer. On November 2, 1996, he was united in marriage to Jacqueline Gray in Colby.
Lyle loved farming and his work. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Lyle had a generous heart and would do whatever he could for anyone in need. He also enjoyed talking with anyone and everyone. Most importantly, Lyle loved and cherished his family, especially his grandchildren.
Lyle is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Jackie; three children: Jonathon Peel of Colby, Lyle (Jamie) Peel III of Merrill and Gary Peel of Athens; two step-daughters: Trish (Jud) Brown of Strum and Kayla (KJ) Passehl of Stratford; five grandchildren: Kaydin Streit (fiance, Dominik Harris) of Rome, Kierstin and Kinlee Passehl of Stratford, Coltan and Eastan Brown of Strum. He is further survived by five sisters: Barbara Richardson of Michigan, Beverly Mallak of Park Falls, Betty Hayden of Florida, Joyce Johnson of Schofield and Carol Bensel of Illinois; one brother, Albert (Pam) Peel of Stratford; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
