Ruth Messmann 1952-2026

Ruth Messmann, beloved mother to five children, 74, of Stetsonville, passed away on Sept. 29, 2026, leaving a void her family cannot fill. She was born in Medford, in May of 1952 to Leland and Verna (Leader) Jochimsen. She attended Medford High School. After high school, she fell in love with David Messmann and they were married on April 15, 1972. Ruth was a stay at home mother while her husband worked away from home. After her children were away from home she worked at the Medford Inn. She cared for her husband during his illness, until he passed away in 2000. Quickly, she moved into the caregiver role for her mother until she passed away in 2020.

Ruth was a devoted mother to Buffy, Connie, Lee, Barry, and Brad. They were her pride and joy. She will always be remembered for her awesome ability to crochet blankets.

Ruth is survived by her children, Buffy (David) Thums, of Athens, Connie (Keith) Trewyn, of Phillips, Lee (special friend, Gwen) Messmann, of Medford, Barry (Amanda) Messmann, of Beaver Dam, Ky., and Brad (Ashley) Messmann, of Marshfield; 13 grandchildren, Dustin, Devin, Shawn (Amanda), Ryan (Erin), David, Tehya, Shane, Taylor, Jesse (Allison), Brandon, Emma, Collin, and Caedyn; five great-grandchildren, Declan, Genna, Ryat, Abigail, and Grant. Ruth is further survived by her brothers, Allen Jochimsen, of Monroe and Dale (Sandy) Jochimsen, of Medford.

In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Jochimsen; and sisters-in-law, Jackie Jochimsen and Carol Jochimsen.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a private family celebration of life will be held for her family, per her wishes.
