Scott Wepfer
In Loving Memory of Scott Thomas Wepfer April 23, 1964-April 21, 2026 Scott Thomas Wepfer passed away on April 21, 2026, just two days shy of his 62nd birthday, less than three months after receiving a diagnosis of stage four pancreatic cancer. A service was held on April 23, 2026.
Born on April 23, 1964, in Loyal, Scott was the eldest of five children born to Tom and Jan Wepfer. He graduated from Loyal High School in 1982. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served active duty from 1982 to 1984, achieving the rank of Sergeant (E5). One of his proudest accomplishments during his military service was completing Air Assault School.
Following his military service, Scott attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy, where he followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather to become a third-generation pharmacist, graduating in 1989. During his time at the university, he discovered a passion for ballroom dancing. He competed internationally, including in Europe during his final year of college, and continued dancing throughout his life, whether at social dance events or waltzing around the kitchen with his daughters.
Scott’s professional career was defined by innovation, entrepreneurship, and a deep commitment to patient care. After completing a hospital pharmacy residency in Birmingham, Ala., he began his career with Walmart before founding The Compounding Shoppe in 1995, the nation’s first compounding-only pharmacy. Through his work, Scott helped countless patients facing complex medical challenges, earning a reputation for both expertise and compassion. He sold the business and retired in 2016. The Compounding Shoppe remains a cornerstone of the healthcare community in Birmingham.
During his more than 20-year marriage to Valerie Elkourie Wepfer, Scott raised three children, Zack, Alexa, and Victoria, in Hoover, Ala. Together, they were active members of the St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church community and strong supporters of their children’s education and extracurricular activities. Scott could often be found driving to practices, games, tournaments, and events, not only for his own children but for many of their teammates and friends as well.
Scott loved the outdoors and treasured spending time in northern Wisconsin, where generations of the Wepfer family gathered for annual reunions. As a child, he enjoyed camping at Crystal Lake with his parents and siblings. Later, he shared those traditions with his own family. The reunions were filled with fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, cycling, card games, and evenings spent together with cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. No trip felt complete without a bike ride to the local general store for Wisconsin ice cream.
An avid traveler with a curious spirit, Scott explored many places around the world. He especially cherished the opportunity to take international trips with each of his children, helping foster in them the same sense of adventure and appreciation for new experiences that he carried throughout his life.
Scott is survived by his wife, Essie; his children, Zack Wepfer, Alexa Wepfer, and Victoria Wilkinson (Tyler); his granddaughter, Rosalie Wilkinson; his parents, Tom and Jan Wepfer; his brother, Dave Wepfer (Amy); and his sisters, Julie Reed (John) and Jill Maertz (Chris). He was preceded in death by his sister, Barb Olson (Mike).
Scott will be remembered for his service to his country, his devotion to his family, his compassion for others, and his unwavering curiosity about the world. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, adventure, and a lifelong commitment to helping people live healthier lives.
