Donald Kroening

Donald L. Kroening, age 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, at Stoney River Assisted Living where he resided for the past four years.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church, with visitation prior to the service at 9 a.m. Lunch will follow. Pastor Amy Heinz will preside. The service will be streamed online at www.rembsfh. com/rembsfuneralhomes. Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Donald was born April 1,1934, to Emil and Eleanor (Pember) Kroening. He graduated from Stratford High School in 1953 and served as a military police in the U.S. Army in the Panama Canal Zone for two years. He worked at Wausau Motor Parts for several years and then became an auto mechanic at Klemme Sales in Stratford for 36 years. He was married to Loretta (Laumer) Keding and they later divorced.

Donald served on the Zion Lutheran Church Council and the Zion Lutheran Cemetery team, and was a past member of the Stratford Fire Department and Stratford Lion's Club. He also served as a village trustee (public works department) for the Village of Stratford for several years. After retirement he enjoyed part time jobs plowing snow, mowing lawns and providing delivery service for several area businesses. He also enjoyed watching the Packers, Brewers, Badgers and Nascar races.

He is survived by a brother, Marvin (Judy) Kroening and a sister, Marjorie (Dennis) Redetzke. He is further survived by his nephews and niece: Brian (Lisa) Kroening, Kurt (Sue) Kroening, Sheri (Mark) Pankow, Randy Redetzke and Ryan Redetzke, and a step-granddaughter, Ashley (Andrew) Murdaugh.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepson, Brian Keding. The family wishes to thank the staff at Stoney River Assisted Living, Compassus Home Health and Heartland Hospice for their support and care of Donald.
