Mary Johnson Mary Johnson

Our Mother, Mary Johnson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, after battling dementia at The Waterford at Colby under the tender care of Moments Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Friends may greet the family starting at 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Mary was born on February 23, 1943, the daughter of Reuben and Laura (Gruber) Derge in Marshfield. She graduated from Marshfield Columbus High School. Mary worked at Kramers IGA as an accountant. On October 17, 1964, she was united in marriage to Patrick Donald Johnson. They later divorced and he preceded her in death on December 4, 2017.

Mary was an incredible mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was also the loudest and proudest cheerleader for those she loved. Along with raising four children, she went back to school in her 40s, earning an associate’s degree in accounting. Mary loved traveling to visit family, playing cribbage, going to plays and concerts, birdwatching and a good Bloody Mary.

While dementia took pieces of her true self away over the last few years, it didn’t take her spirit and her smile. She loved seeing and visiting with family members and conversations about her love of the Brewers and Packers until her final days. We are still processing this difficult loss but are comforted knowing she is now pain free. Mom, you are loved beyond words and always will be.

Mary is survived by her four children: Stacy (Keith) Meyer, Scott Johnson, Stuart (Michele) Johnson and Derek (Kristen) Johnson; six grandchildren: Ashley (Brandon Mueller) Meyer, Tyler Johnson, Chase Johnson, Alex (Devin) Ault, Michael (Madison) Williams and Jarod Johnson; five great-grandchildren: Mason Mueller, Myles Mueller, Emmett Mueller, Jordy Ault and Presley Ault. She is further survived by her brother, Joe (Sharon) Derge; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband; two brothers: John and Richard Derge and one sister, Patricia Newcomb.
