John T. Volk, age 75, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2026. He was born on October 15, 1950, in Waverly, Iowa, to John Roy Volk and Normadine (Nicolaus) Volk. His family later moved to the Owen homestead, where John would make his home and build a life deeply rooted in family, farming, and the land.

John graduated from Owen-Withee High School in 1968. Farming was not simply a way of life for John. It was a passion and a part of who he was. He spent a remarkable 67 years farming, dedicating countless hours to caring for the land and his livestock. John especially loved working with animals, and his horses held a special place in his heart. He was a hardworking man who took great pride in the land, making firewood and caring for the last of his livestock throughout his later years.

John also enjoyed following the Green Bay Packers and sharing conversation and good times with family and friends. In his later years, John worked for 12 years with Lynn Dairy, picking up milk. He truly enjoyed his coworkers and looked forward to visiting and talking with the patrons along his milk route. Those conversations and relationships became an important part of his daily life.

John cherished time spent with his family and friends. During hunting season, he especially enjoyed talking with Kris, Reese, and Sam. John became like family to many. His kindness, hard work, stories, and conversations will be remembered and deeply missed by his siblings, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and many friends.

John is survived by his siblings, Beth (George) Hamm, Jane (Victor) Schiszik, Linda (Randy Kaiser) Schiszik, Tom (Shari) Volk, and Julie Stumpner. In addition, John is survived by nephews; nieces; grandnephews; grandnieces; and many friends who were like family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Roy and Normadine Volk; his brother, Daniel Volk, and; his brother-in- law, Paul “Junior” Stumpner.

A Memorial Gathering for John will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen, Wisconsin on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026. Following the memorial gathering, a graveside burial will be held with close family members at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the Town of Holway.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Adam Stumpner, Wade Dobrzynski, Jared Volk, Kris Schiszik, Reese Schiszik, Samuel Schiszik, Randy Kaiser and Mike Schiszik.

John will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of the land and animals, his enjoyment of conversation, and most of all, the special place he held in the lives of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
