Lorretta M. Brown

1927-2026

Lorretta M. Brown, age 98, of Thorp, passed away on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026 at Cornell Health Services in Cornell. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thorp. Rev. Phil Beukema will officiate, and burial will follow at Hannibal Cemetery in Hannibal. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Lorretta Mae Missling was born on July 17, 1927 in Loyal, the daughter of Robert O. and Wilhelmina “Wilma” (Hendricks) Missling. She was raised and received her education in the Loyal area, and graduated from Loyal High School. Lorretta was united in marriage to Bert G. Brown on Sept. 9, 1947 in Pine City, Minn. Over the years, she was employed as a secretary at Vinger Insurance Agency in Loyal for 20 years, ITT Life Insurance Corporation in Thorp for 15 years, and Industrial Fabricators in Thorp for 13 years, until retiring.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Thorp.

Lorretta is survived by one grandson, Brendan (Colleen) Draves of Minnetonka, Minn.; one niece; four nephews; and her close friends, Patty (Gary) Schauer of Holcombe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bert; her daughter, Brenda St. Germaine; and two sisters, Dr. Lorraine Missling and Alvera Peterson.
