Mary Ann Nowicki
Mary Ann Nowicki, 92, Athens, died peacefully with family at her side on January 15, 2026.
She was born August 8, 1933, in the town of Rietbrock, daughter of the late Joe and Stella (Handlosky) Nowicki. She loved her dogs and growing up on a farm there were many escapades with her cousins, Johnny and Bobby, and sister, Helen, that raised the hair on their father’s heads.
She worked in Wausau for a few years and in January 1955, she went to Milwaukee to work at Briggs and Stratton for 31 years, serving on the union elections committee for a number of years.
When bowling caught her interest, she bowled from 1960 - 2011 and entered 25 national tournaments all around the country and served as league secretary organizing many tournaments.
Mary Ann was the “extreme couponer” in the 80’s finding the best bargains in the city! When her trunk was full she would head home to Athens where everybody enjoyed trunk shopping. She loved giving people rides to the airport, taking families to Brewers games, the zoo or wherever.
Survivors include her three sisters: Helen Bogaczyk, Chris (John) Delago and Bernice Manhard; three brothers: Joe (Jane) Nowicki, Ed (Mary) Nowicki and Richard Nowicki; many beloved nieces and nephews and many greats.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Phyllis (Mel) Mader and Theresa Schwartz.
The funeral Mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski. Rev. Alan Wierzba presided. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Visitation was held on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service, all at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poniatowski.
In lieu of flowers, Mary Ann would appreciate donations to be given to St. Anthony Catholic School or the Athenian Living Community where she received outstanding, loving care.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the Athenian and to St. Croix Hospice for everything.
